How to Write a Perfect NOC for Your Schengen Visa (With Tips)

The No Objection Certificate (NOC) is arguably the second most important document in your Schengen visa application after your bank statement. It proves to the embassy that you are gainfully employed in the UAE and, crucially, that you are expected back at work after your holiday.
A poorly drafted NOC can cause instant delays or outright rejection. Here is how to ensure your NOC is perfect.
The 6 Mandatory Elements of a Visa NOC
Your company’s HR department might have a standard template, but you must verify that it includes all the following information:
1. Company Letterhead: The NOC must be printed on the official, high-quality company letterhead containing the company's full address, trade license number, and contact details.
2. Date of Issue: The letter must be recent—ideally issued no more than 14-21 days before your VFS appointment.
3. Addressee: It should be addressed to the specific consulate you are applying to (e.g., "To the Consulate General of Italy in Dubai").
4. Your Exact Details: Your full name (exactly as it appears on your passport) and your passport number.
5. Employment Details: Your official job title, your exact date of joining the company, and your gross monthly salary.
6. Leave Approval: This is critical. The NOC must explicitly state that your leave has been approved, specifying the exact dates of your holiday, and confirming that you are expected to resume your duties on a specific date.
The Most Common NOC Mistakes
* Missing Salary: HR sometimes refuses to put salaries on NOCs for privacy reasons. Explain to them that Schengen embassies *require* it to cross-check against your bank statements.
* Digital Signatures Only: The NOC must have a physical, wet-ink signature from an authorized HR manager or company director, along with the official company stamp/seal.
* Mismatched Dates: The approved leave dates on the NOC must encompass the dates on your flight reservations. If the NOC says you return on the 10th, but your flight is on the 12th, you have a major problem.
What if I am a Business Owner?
If you are a partner or owner of a company in the UAE, you do not need an NOC. Instead, you must provide:
* A valid copy of your UAE Trade License.
* A self-drafted cover letter on your company letterhead stating your position and travel intentions.
